The Dockhand is responsible for assisting the marina team in order to serve marina customers and guests by performing a variety of tasks including but not limited to general operation of the docks and assisting boaters. The position entails regularly using essential equipment such as pump-out equipment, pressure washers, small forklifts, etc. The Dockhand must work to maintain a safe and clean environment throughout the harbor and marina facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide SHM members with the best experience possible
- Greet all customers in a manner that expresses a kind, courteous and professional character
- Help orient members and guests to the marina, facilities, and answer other commonly asked questions
- Assist customers with general boating needs. Assisting with Fueling operation.
- Maintain and clean restrooms, docks, walkways, grounds, amenities and outdoor furniture and other areas designated by management
- Perform weekly pump-outs to member boats.
- Maintain daily pump-down and operation of sewage tanks.
- Daily trash clean up around the property.
- Daily dock walks and reporting.
- Ensure docks and equipment are operational at all times, and report needed maintenance
- Comply with OSHA regulations, environmental regulations, and adhere to all site rules and expectations
- Availability to work overtime when required
- Ability to work weekends and holidays
- Other duties as assigned by the Managers
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
- Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements
- Ability to work safely around the water, including swimming and working around the water and boats
- Must be able to work outside in summer heat and inclement weather
- Must be able to swim
- Must be able to handle daily physical activity and outside temperatures.
- Ability to lift 30-50 pounds
- Basic boat handling skills preferred
- Previous marina experience preferred
- Previous customer service experience preferred
