Captain or Captain/Engineer
About
Having been a licensed Captain for almost 30 years, I have spent my boating career in both yachting and commercial vessel operation. My yachting pedigree comes from more than seven years with JM Family Enterprises Marine Department on the motor yachts Gallant Lady, one of the premier yachting programs in the world. Unfortunately, JM Family decided to lay-off 500 associates following the 2008 Presidential election, which cost both the Marine and Aviation departments 40% of their staff. Since then, I have done numerous part time and freelance Captain jobs. One of these turned into a six-year stint on a 37-meter Heesen after having run the same owners 92’ Mangusta on a freelance basis for a couple of years prior. Once that vessel sold, I moved on to a 37-meter Admiral which sold in July 2020, with the owners not purchasing another boat. I then moved on to MOONSHOT, a 94’ Paragon, for the youngest son/brother of the Admiral owners but resigned in June 2022 due to the abrupt change of direction of the program. More recently I was a hired gun to save the summer season in New England for the owner of m/y ANJILIS. Following ANJILIS I briefly assumed command of a 126’ Ferretti named Randy Beth which turned out to be a very undesirable program. Following my brief stint on Randy Beth, the owner of Moonshot, requested that I return to his program due to his pending divorce, but now the boat is actively on the market, not being used and he can’t afford to keep it. After leaving this program again, I received a call for an emergency replacement of an alcoholic Captain in the Bahamas. On very short notice I flew in and assumed command of a 110’ Horizon, completed the Bahamas trips, returned to Palm Beach and managed a shipyard period until a full time Captain could be hired. I have over twenty-five years of experience running boats as a licensed Captain and five years at the helm of 49, 51, & 52-meter yachts. I have extensive shipyard project management experience on classed (ABS & RINA) as well as unclassed vessels and have exceptional crew management skills. I find that wherever I have worked, I bring a few key strengths to the table: I am a self-motivated leader with excellent organizational skills, an outstanding work ethic and impeccable attention to detail. I also possess extraordinarily strong engineering skills from a lifetime of twisting wrenches on everything from bicycles to boats, cars, trucks, motorcycles, and motor yachts. My plans are to continue in the maritime field as Captain, or Captain/Engineer, seeking a position aboard a private yacht, 32 meters or larger, that is based in Palm Beach, Martin or Broward County, Florida. Yes, that’s a broad range so the most important criteria are a good program, with a good owner, and a good fit for both of us, with longevity in mind. Please see the accompanying resume and feel free to contact me with any questions and/or to set an interview. Thank you.
